Residency: A Year in Japan (K-6)

 

This 5-day residency focuses on children’s lives and activities in Japan. It helps students gain an accurate picture of contemporary Japan while providing them with a sense of history. Lessons span areas such as geography, culture, school life, and national holidays.  Students will be immersed in folktales, traditional songs, and hands-on art. The residency culminates into a students’ performance and art exhibit.

 

The cultural topics may include:

  • Japanese New Year
  • Writing System and Calligraphy
  • Geography, Climate, and Natural Disasters
  • School Life in Japan
  • Children’s Day
  • Obon: Festivals for Ancestors
  • Monsters in Japanese Folklore
