Family Program: Libraries, Museums, and Community Centers

Folktales & Origami for Families

Parents’ Choice Award winner Motoko regales families (ages 5 and up) with delightful folktales from her native Japan, combined with hands-on origami activities. Motoko’s step-by-step instructions make the ancient Japanese art fun and accessible. Children will learn focus, imagination, and precision while creating pieces of art.

Tales & Origami for Teens

Motoko joins libraries in their efforts to provide a safe and engaging space for teens. During this 90-minute program, Motoko will tell traditional tales, full of humor and mystery, and discuss how Japanese folklore has inspired games and anime in the U.S. and around the world. Under her step-by-step guidance, participants will make origami monsters and creatures, and design their own original anime characters. This new, innovative program was originally developed for the Chicopee Public Library’s Anime Club, sponsored by the Chicopee Cultural Council.
